2024 is a great year to make energy efficient upgrades to your home in Sacramento, Placer County, or a surrounding area! There are numerous California residential rebate programs available throughout the area that offer homeowners a way to save on appliances and home services that improve your comfort and make your home more affordable to heat and cool.
The team at Brower Mechanical makes sure to stay informed on what rebates and tax credits are available in our service area to help our customers maximize their savings. We’re also a participating contractor in many local utility rebate programs, including SMUD—which has some of the best home performance rebates in the state! Here’s what’s on our radar for SMUD rebates for sustainable homes in 2024:
SMUD Home Rebates Program 2024
The SMUD Home Rebates Program allows homeowners to bundle their energy efficiency upgrades to receive greater rebates and more savings. There are four different rebates packages to choose from and Brower Mechanical can help you determine which option is best for your home’s needs.
Heating & Cooling Package - Up to $3,000 in rebates for upgrading to a heat pump or mini split system. Qualified heat pumps must meet certain efficiency standards and connect to a Wi-Fi-enabled, 7-day programmable thermostat.
Go Electric Bonus Package - Up to $2,500 in rebates for electrical work to make your home compatible with EV charging and all-electric appliances. This work should be completed after installing a heat pump HVAC system or heat pump water heater.
Heat Pump Water Heaters - Up to $3,000 in rebates for upgrading to a heat pump water heater. Qualified water heaters must meet certain standards, include a thermostatic mixing valve, and meet city and county requirements and inspections.
Seal & Insulate Package - Rebates up to $3,000 for improving your home’s efficiency with air sealing and insulation. All improvements must meet SMUD standards and can include attic insulation and new ductwork installation and sealing.
Combine SMUD Energy Efficiency Rebates with Other Incentives!
One of the great things about the SMUD home upgrade rebates is that they can be combined with other statewide and federal incentives. There are several electrification rebates in California that can add to the SMUD electrification incentives, making the switch to all-electric more affordable and providing several whole-home benefits.
TECH Clean California Rebates - To help homeowners meet their home electrification goals, TECH Clean California offers significant rebates for heat pump water heaters and heat pump HVAC systems. These rebates are for retrofit work only and must be non-heat pump to heat pump conversions.
Heat pump HVAC system - rebates starting at $1,000
Heat pump water heater rebates - rebates starting at $3,100
Energy Efficient Home Improvement Federal Tax Credit - Reduce your federal tax liability by 30% of the cost of eligible home upgrades with federal tax credits made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act. There are maximum amounts for qualified improvements, including:
Heat pumps HVAC systems and heat pump water heaters up to $2,000
Insulation and air sealing up to $1,200 (materials only, labor not included)
Residential Clean Energy Tax Credit - Receive a 30% federal tax credit for qualifying renewable energy upgrades, including geothermal heat pump installation.
