Sacramento Electrical Services

It may sound silly to say that electricity powers our lives, but the extent to which this is true is often far beyond what most of us think about each day. Electricity plays a role in almost everything we do, including how we prepare the food we eat, how we entertain ourselves, how we work or earn a living, and everything, how we get where we’re going, and more. As technology progresses and becomes more eco-friendly, our dependence on electricity grows, and that means so does the need for professional and skilled electricians.

Since 1979, Brower Mechanical has proudly provided the Sacramento area with reliable electrical services. Every time we take on a job, we strive to live by our mantra: “We do it right the first time.” That means carefully evaluating your issue to find the root cause of your problem, creating a plan to fix it, and then using code-compliant materials and techniques to execute that plan to a high level of quality. When we’re done, we even back our services with warranties for added peace of mind. Whether you’re looking to overhaul your property and prepare it for the future, or you’re just looking to make it a little better with a new ceiling fan, request a free estimate from our team to learn how we can assist you.

What Are the Most Common Electrical Problems in California?

California’s hot and dry climate can be hard on electrical systems in unique ways not found throughout much of the rest of the country. Our area’s extreme heat, long hours of sunlight exposure, and occasional high winds can all cause a number of problems for our electrical systems that need to be addressed and mitigated as soon as possible. Here are just a few of them:

  • Electrical surges: Grid-induced power surges caused by both planned and unplanned blackouts as well as infrastructure failure or inclement weather can all cause immense damage to your electrical system, as well as anything connected to it.
  • Breaker problems: High current demands mean extra wear and tear on breakers, and this can cause them to fail early.
  • Flickering lights: If you live in an older home with older light fixtures, poor connections or shifts in voltage can cause your lights to flicker uncontrollably.
  • Faulty outlets: Outlets can and will wear out over time, especially if they are used regularly.
  • Outdated wiring: Many of our state’s older homes and properties still rely on outdated wiring that could have any number of things that would now be considered code violations.

Can I Work On My Own Electrical System in CA?

The answer to this question depends on the work being done. For something simple like replacing a switch or changing a lightbulb, you are more than welcome to do this job on your own. However, just make sure you follow standard safety procedures like turning off the power to the affected circuit at your breaker before starting your work.

For more serious jobs, such as installing new electrical components, we strongly recommend having the job done professionally. A professional installation can help avoid costly mistakes, including code violations that are both dangerous and could require a costly fix to rectify later on.

Finally, for major work such as replacing your electrical panel, installing a new electrical circuit (including power for new construction or an addition), remodeling or replacing your wiring, and other large-scale jobs, you may need to obtain a permit from your local government, and in some cases, permits will only be granted to licensed electricians. A professional electrician from our team can clarify this for you when providing you with an estimate.

Electrical Repair vs. Replacement

If something has gone wrong with your electrical system, should you repair the problem or replace the component that is giving you the issue? The truth is this answer isn’t always so straightforward. Some components are much easier and cheaper to simply replace than they are to repair, such as inexpensive components like switches, outlets, or breakers.

However, sometimes an issue with these components may be a sign of a bigger and more serious underlying problem. For example, a breaker that won’t stay active could be an indicator of a short or other serious problem somewhere along that circuit. If you find yourself frequently and repeatedly needing to call an electrician to repair the same issue, then there’s a strong chance your true issue could lie under the surface. This is where the experience and diagnostic skills of a licensed electrician are invaluable in helping you get to the bottom of this mystery. Likewise, solving an issue like this quickly is extremely important, as it can help you avoid a more serious disaster, such as an electrical fire or injury due to electrical shock.
