The total rebate amount is dependent on your area and the equipment you are upgrading in an existing home. TECH Clean California rebates for heat pump water heaters are currently available for SoCal Gas customers, but they will expand statewide this fall. These rebates include:
$1,000 for electric-to-electric heat pump water heater upgrades
$3,100 for gas-to-electric water heating conversions
All heat pump water heaters must be ENERGY STAR certified and/or meet Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) Tier 3 rating. Homeowners must also work with a qualified participating contractor, like Brower Mechanical, for installation.
Additional Heat Pump Water Heater Incentives
The best thing about the TECH Clean rebate program is that its incentives can be combined with other rebates and tax credits. For SMUD and Roseville Electric customers, you could save up to 100% on your water heater replacement!
Other heat pump water heater incentives include:
Up to $3,000 in rebates for NEEA Tier 3 or higher heat pump water heaters available to SMUD customers.
Up to $2,000 in heat pump water heater tax credits through the Inflation Reduction Act. Heat pump water heaters must be ENERGY STAR certified and the tax credit will reduce your federal tax liability by 30% of the total cost of installation, up to $2,000.
Rebates up to $500 through the Golden State Rebate Program for replacing a standard electric water heater.
